Make your own free website
Blog for free!
You can blog for free with free blogging software.
Blogs are as diverse as the people who own them. Some are like online diaries - while others are megasites offering updates on technology and news many times a day.
They can be used for everything from a site dedicated to your pet treefrog to a business site with a focus on making money. They are often updated multiple times a week, or even each day.
There are a few different blogging sites that you can sign up with.
Examples:
Blogger
Extremely simple to use. You can add photos and videos to your blog entries. Owned by Google.
blogger.com
Blog
Again, super simple. Fun and easy, with an option to upgrade.

Wordpress
There is a bit more of a learning curve with WordPress, but it still has a solid reputation of being the best blogging software there is - and for good reason. It allows you to easily network with other bloggers and allows a lot of customization.
For a beginner to WordPress, you can wet your feet with a free-hosted WordPress site at wordpress.com. For the most functionality though, the best option is to download WordPress at wordpress.org, and use your own hosting.
wordpress.org
Yahoo Profiles
The brand new Yahoo Profiles will replace their old Yahoo 360 product. So Yahoo 360 users should get their skates on and ensure they don't lose their info & photos! It's an exciting move by Yahoo that will have powerful networking capability - a bit like Facebook, blogging and other Yahoo features rolled up into one package.

Free site builders
These site builders are downloaded to your computer's hard drive. You can build quick, original designs - with the flexibility of placing what you want where you want.
These do not come with free hosting.

Blue Voda
This site builder is remarkable. It has professional functions and features found nowhere else, and an active support forum that will help you if you get stuck.
You can build a simple page in seconds - or design to your heart's content with no restrictions.
VodaHost hosting is required to put your site online.
Free web hosting
There are more free web hosts out there than you can poke a stick at! This is conventional hosting, which provides the server and webspace for your site.
Some will place ads on your site (including the worst of all - the pop-up ad) Others will not place ads on your site, hoping that you will like their hosting so much that you will sign up for paid hosting with them. Which, if you're happy with them, you may well do!
The better kinds of free web hosts can run a complex website, with all or most of the features of a paid webhost. (Some however, will not guarantee the uptime percentage of their servers- obviously, this is not good enough if you are running any kind of serious business.)
You will need to design your website (using FrontPage or other site builder), and FTP your pages to the root directory of your file manager.
Just because it's free doesn't mean it's easy. So if you have no idea how to upload your website using FTP, or if the look of the backend control panel gives you hives - you need to understand that a free web host is the same as its paid counterpart. If you want something simple, a combined free web builder/host may suit you better. (see 'Free site builders that come with free hosting', above on this page.)
If you are just dabbling - you have nothing to lose by giving free web hosting a try! And some of the free web hosts are seriously good.
Examples:
Zymic
Free templates, tutorials and free hosting. Also, they have a free domain name offer if your site passes a set of requirements (if it's professional enough.) That's quite a lot for free!
